Organizing for A Cause
Southwest Workers' Union

Southwest Workers Union
The Southwest Workers Union is an organization that uses grassroots efforts to create long-lasting systemic change for social, economic, and environmental justice.  The union consists of community residents, youth, low-income workers, and families.

The Southwest Workers Union organizes for the following environmental problems:

 Military Toxics
Military installation in San Antonio has been responsible for contaminating our water, air, land, and bodies.  SWU organize to make sure the community has a voice, and hold people responsible for the decisions that affect lives.
Ex:  Call for Kelly Air Force Base Clean Up

 Energy and Climate Justice
Green house gas pollution. SWU seeks clean, green energy for the working class communities of color. They work to find solutions to our energy and climate problems, and believe that we all have a right to healthy and clean environments.
Ex: Against expansion of nuclear power plants & are for wind and solar energy

 Roots of Change
Aim to transform polluted communities.
Ex: Organic community garden in Eastside Community

Corporate Accountability
Work to ensure that corporations gather input from local residents and put resources back into the local community.
Ex: Reduce Noise Pollution, Union Pacific Railroad- toxic materials transported through neighborhoods, traffic pollution of diesel trucks
